A Growing Community: What Makes Trinity Special |
Trinity Church was recently noted one of several churches in our diocese to be considered a "growing" community. Taking note of everything going on here, it is easy to see why! Below are just some of the wide variety of groups and activities taking place at Trinity that offer opportunites for personal, spiritual, and community growth. Please feel free to browse this site for more details about many of them!
Adult Study Groups: Cover both general and specific spiritual topics.
Altar Guild: Assists with service setup and cleanup and cleaning of linens.
Church School: Classes for children are held during part of the 9:00 a.m. weekly service.
Concert Series: Brings first-class musicians to Trinity for well-attended, wonderful concerts.
Diakon Lutheran Services Learning Classes: Offered regularly at Trinity. Please call 621-6325 for more information or go to this link: http://www.diakon.org/community-services-for-seniors/Living-Learning-After-50/
Fundraising Events: Parishioners who work hard to provide dinners, candy sales, and more for the parish as well as the Pottsville community.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers: Parishioners who take communion to the homebound within the parish.
Lay Liturgical Ministers: Includes readers, servers (called acolytes,) ushers, greeters, and chalice bearers.
Outreach: Includes volunteering with community soup kitchens and participating in a diocesan campaign to provide aid to those in Northeastern Pennsylvania as well as South Sudan, Africa.
Worship and Liturgy: Parishioners who work together to plan all the aspects for services and liturgy.
Vestry: Parishioners elected to manage the business affairs of the parish.
Volunteers: Help out with money counting, newsletter folding, baking and decorating for special occasions, and in countless other ways to make things run smoothly.
Youth Group: Participate in youth activities as well as community service projects.
Trinity also hosts special events that happen throughout the year which also aid in uniting the parish community as well as those in the Pottsville area. These include but are not limited to:
Annual Art Show: Held in conjunction with the November concert of the Trinity concert series. Parishioners and local artists can display their works.
Annual Christmas Tea and Cookie Exchange: Fellowship and goodies are enjoyed by all!
Baber Day: Community day held in September at the Charles Baber Cemetery in Pottsville.
Community-Wide Thanksgiving Eve Service: Several area churches participate in this meaningful service.
Lenten Soup Suppers and Evening Prayer: Hosted each Wednesday evening during Lent for fellowship followed by a prayer service.
With so much to choose from, it is easy to find a way to be a part of our community while reaching out and giving back at the same time. That's the biggest aspect that makes Trinity so special--it is a true community. We reach out and support each other within, and we reach out to the larger community of Pottsville as well. There is a sense here that every small thing done for the greater good is important and meaningful. We hope to continue living our mission statement to the best of our ability: "to be a Christ-centered parish that knows Christ and makes Him known to others..."
"I give to you a new commandment: that you love one another, as I have loved you." John 13:34
